OLD PHYSICIAN DEAD
DR. A. L. CRESSLER PASSES AWAY AT HIS HOME IN WILKES-BARRE A. L. Cressler, whose death occurred yesterday morning at his home, 248 South River street, waa one of the oldest physicians la Wilkes-Barre. Last Wednesday he became seriously ill. Deceased was born In 1828 In Carlisle, Pa., and after a course in the public schools he went to Jefferson Medical. Soon afterwards he was married to Miss Caroline Heller, who still survives him. Shortly after his marriage he went to Espy, Columbia County, and began to practice medicine, but soon moved to Sugar Loaf Township, in this county, where his active life was spent; except that for a few years, two or three, he lived in the State of Ohio. About twenty years ago he moved to this city where he resided till his death. He had only one child, his son. Dr. John M. Cressler of this city. He became a member of the .Luzerne County Medical Society on March 4, 1861. but his membership was lost by removal in 1880, and waa not afterward resumed.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1874. There will be services at the house on Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock and on Thursday morning the remains will be taken to Conyngham for interment. - The Wilkes-Barre Record, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; 24 Feb 1903, Tue, Page 8

John married Emma Arabella "Belle" Stiles on 15 Jun 1875 in Collegeville, Montgomery Co, Pennsylvania. Emma (daughter of Nathan D. Stiles and Rachel Egbert) was born on 30 Jan 1855 in Townhill, Luzerne Co, Pennsylvania; died on 1 Nov 1921 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co, Pennsylvania; was buried on 3 Nov 1921 in Hollenback Cem, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co, Pennsylvania. Notes:

Edwin died of the 1918 influenza pandemic that originated in Haskell County, Kansas. Duration of the illness was only eight days.
His obituary in Wilkes-Barre Times Leader is confusing with errors. The brother is probably John Webster Cressler who was stationed in France during WWI. Mrs. Herman Mailander could be Mary Arabella whose first husband was Herman Mailander.

EDWIN S. CRESSLEREdwin Stiles Cressler, eldest son of Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Cressler, died at the family home, 250 South River street Sunday after a few days' illness of influenza. Besides his parents he is survived by one brother. Dr John Crssler in France, and one sister, Mrs. Herman Mailander of this city. The funeral was held from the family horn thla afternoon and.was private. Services were conducted by Ensign and Mrs. Cook of the Salvation Army. The pall bearers were: William Hughes, Daniel Parry, Jacob and Peter Strltzinger. Interment was in Hollenback cemetery.

Comlng Wedding. Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Cressler announce the engagement of their daughter, - Mary Adaline, to Frederick Richard Thomas. The marrlage will take place at the residence of the bride's parents, 107 Parrtsh street, on the evening of Oct. 24 [1900].
In birth certificate #42062 of Mary Mailander Jr, b. 4 Mar 1910, Herman Mailander and Mary A Cressler live at 117 Carlise St in Wilkes-Barre, Mary Jr was born in Wilkes-Barre, father's occupaton was contractor. Attending physician was her grandfather Dr JM Cressler who lived at 250 S River St, Wilkes-Barre.

Mary married Frederick Richard Wolfe Thomas on 24 Oct 1900 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co, Pennsylvania. Frederick (son of Franklin Pierce Thomas and Mary Jane Howels) was born on 21 May 1879 in Herrick Centre, Susquehanna Co, Pennsylvania; died on 22 Mar 1917 in Seattle, King Co, Washington.
