  1. 1.  Henry Chapin was born about 1629-1630 in England; was christened on 25 Jan 1629/30 in Berry Pomeroy, Devonshire, England (son of Samuel Chapin and Living); died on 16 Aug 1718 in Springfield, Hampshire Co, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    Henry Chapin, son of Deacon Samuel and Cicely Penny, was a deputy to the General Court in 1689, and served for eleven years as selectman. He and his brother, Japhet Chapin (who was m. Abileneh Coole/Coley* dau of Samuel Coole/Coley* of Massachusetts Bay Colony (MBC), later Milford, Connecticut Colony), were the first settlers in Chicopee which was the "old fifth parish" of Springfield. Henry Chapin's house was near the west end of what is now (1942) Exchange street in Chicopee Center. He was living there by 1675. *"Coole" was the spelling of Samuel Coley while he resided in MBC and "Coley" when he founded and resided in Milford Connecticut Colony.

    Henry married Bethia Cooley on 5 Dec 1664 in Massachusetts. Bethia (daughter of Benjamin1 Cooley and Sarah (wife of Ensign Benjamin Cooley) [?]) was born on 16 Sep 1643 in Springfield, Non-County Area 1, Massachusetts Bay Colony; died on 9 Dec 1711 in Springfield, Hampshire Co, Massachusetts.   1. 2.  Samuel Chapin was born about 1598 in England; was christened on 8 Oct 1598 in Paginton, Devonshire, England; died on 11 Nov 1675 in Springfield, Hampshire Co, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    Deacon Samuel Chapin of Springfield was bapt at Paignton, Devonshire England 8 Oct 1598, d Springfield Mas 11 Nov 1675, m. at Paignton England 9 Feb 1623/24, Cicely Penney, dau of Henry Penney of Paignton. He sailed to America in 1635 and settled in Roxbury MBC where he bacame a citizen and landholder between 1636 and 1640; he took the Freeman's oath in 1641 and in the next year moved to Springfield MBC where he becamse a Deacon and sometimes preached; he served on a Town Committee in 1642; became Constable in 1645, and Selectman from 1644 to 1651. [In 1648 he served as a Selectman along with Benjamin Cooley]. He also served in 1660, 1663, and 1664. He was Commissioner in 1652, 1654, 1662, and 1664, and in 1659 had a commission to administer justice.
